The combat though not having any tutorial is VERY FUN AND EXCITING, courtesy of Platinum games.And if you are a fan of bullet-hell shooters or Toho games you will like it even more. The reason I suggested Automata was something even all of those who downvoted me will agree on.
But if you NEED AWESOME COMBAT & GAMEPLAY like me and ask for some decent graphics, you will not be happy. So if you can tolerate repetitive gameplay and god-awful graphics for great story and music,Nier could very well be a cherished experience for you. Nier has a Great story and amazing Soundtrack. If you were you would never have said anything bad about DOD3 and tolerated it's repetitive combat and told everyone how cool zero was.
